Minor surgery

This is carried out by the doctor and assisted by the practice nurse or HCA.

This may include for example the removal or freezing of a wart or cyst, steroid injection for painful bone conditions i.e. tennis elbow, frozen shoulder.

Contraception

Contraceptive services and advice, including contraception implant fitting service and emergency contraception is available to all, please make an appointment with the practice nurse. If you have been advised by the practice to complete a review of your contraception, please complete our online Contraceptive Review form.

For emergency contraception, it is advisable to seek advice as soon as possible either at the surgery during normal hours, or contact iCaSH Milton Keynes on 0300 300 3030. These services are entirely confidential and can be given either by your doctor or your local family planning clinic.

Milton Keynes Hospital also provide Sexual Health & Family Planning services. Please call 0300 303 8273 for appointments details and walk in clinics.

Sexual health/HIV testing

Sexually transmitted diseases are common and can affect any sexually active individual. If you think you may have a sexually transmitted disease, you can seek confidential advice from your doctor or from Milton Keynes sexual health clinic. Please contact them on 0300 300 3030.

Screening

Some diseases can be prevented or treated more successfully through early detection by screening. In view of this we encourage our patients to attend for the following procedures:

Cervical screening (smear test)

A recall system exists to call eligible women between the ages of 25 and 64 years for regular smear tests according to national protocols. Appointments are made with the nursing staff.

Routine breast screening

Arranged by the NHS health authority, routine break screening is available to all women between 50 and 70 years of age. Patients are informed of their appointment by letter.A leaflet containing further details is available at the surgery. Breast Awareness is encouraged in all women of all ages.

Bowel cancer screening

Bowel screening is available to all patients between the age of 60 – 74. You will be contacted by letter.

Testicular self examination

It is important that all men, particularly those aged 15-40, examine their testicles regularly and if they become aware of any changes, e.g. pain, swelling etc, they should make an appointment to see a GP. Information is available at the surgery.

All patients who feel they would benefit from attending one of our clinics are welcome to discuss an appointment with our reception staff.

Midwife services

CMK Medical Centre come under the Avebury Community Midwife Services. They provide clinics at the practice through the week. If you have had a positive pregnancy test at home please complete a midwife contact form, and the midwives will get in contact with you. The midwife will then contact you to make an appointment.

Adult social care drop-in sessions

Do you have questions about social care, being a carer for someone or just need information?

It can be difficult to know if you or a loved one either needs care, is eligible for care or what the financial implicates are.

The Integrated Community Support Team is setting up drop in sessions in your local medical centre twice a month, to help you understand the process and the options better.

This is now available at the following medical centres:

  • Central Milton Keynes

Health visitors & baby clinic

An immunisation clinic is also held on a Wednesday between 12:30- 16:00. Appointment times are sent by letter for this clinic. If you are unable to make your allotted date/time please telephone the surgery.
